What is Giving Day?
Giving Day is a 32-hour online giving campaign bringing the UC San Diego community together to show the world we are anything but ordinary. The campaign starts at 6 a.m. on May 16 and will run until 2 p.m. on May 17. This will be our university's very first Giving Day!
When is Giving Day?
Giving Day is Thursday, May 16, 2019 and Friday, May 17, 2019. Our 32-hour campaign will run from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. the next day. Any gift made during that time frame will be counted toward the campaign!
What can I support?
You have the opportunity to support any particular area on campus that you choose. You will find the list of highlighted schools and units participating at the bottom of each page of the u.give website where we encourage you to choose your area of greatest passion and interest. If you do not see a specific fund you would like to support, you can visit giveto.ucsd.edu and make your gift there!
What if I want to support more than one featured project?
Yes! You can make multiple gifts in a single transaction through our Giving Day website, https://ugive.ucsd.edu. Simply click "+ Add another gift to your donation" in the bottom right hand corner of the giving form, and select another area to give to! You can also make multiple gifts throughout the duration of the campaign to anywhere you're passionate about to be counted.
How do I give on Giving Day?
There are several ways you can support u.give, our first Giving Day. We encourage donors to make gifts through our special Giving Day website - https://ugive.ucsd.edu. The Giving Day website will track gifts in real time so that everyone can see the progress of giving for the overall campaign and each of the schools, divisions, and various projects featured. You can also support a featured match or challenge, and see progess updates throughout the 32-hour period. You also can make a gift via phone, mail or at one of our Giving Day events to be counted for Giving Day.
Is my gift tax-deductible? Will I get a tax receipt?
Yes. The UC San Diego Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation (Tax ID #95-2872494). Your gift qualifies for tax-deduction in accordance with IRS regulations during the calendar year that you make your gift. You will receive a gift receipt via mail for your files. What are matches and challenges?
Matches are a fun way for one donor to create an incentive for others to give! When someone makes a gift, the donor matches it at a certain ratio, like 1:1 or 2:1, up to the stated amount. For example, when you make a gift of $100 to a project with a pledged match of $1,000, an additional $100 will go to the project. That 1:1 match continues until the full amount of the pledge has been reached.
Challenges are another fun way to inspire people to give, and usually start with a significant gift from a donor. Challenges allow donors participating in Giving Day to unlock gifts based on a set of criteria. The project, school or division that has the most unique donors in a specified time period is awarded an additional gift to their initiative. Challenges can be in support of one project or more centralized to create competition among a series of projects. For example, you could help one project get 25 donors in three hours, which will unlock a $500 gift, or the department with the most gifts by the end of the campaign unlocks a $1,500 gift. There are many fun ways to do it!
